Motherhood in 2024 has been a journey of adapting, growth, discovering what works, and embracing the unexpected. Here are the top five lessons that have helped me navigate life as a mom this year.
- Harmony Over Balance
Trying to keep everything perfectly balanced made me feel inadequate. Instead, I focus on harmonizing my responsibilities so that, over time, they work together. Day by day and week by week, this approach helps me manage motherhood more effectively. Let me know if you’d like me to elaborate! - Accepting What I Can’t Control
Max has gone through every sleep regression, which means I still don’t always get a full night’s sleep. At a year and a half, that’s just part of life. I’ve made peace with it and accept that some mornings require extra coffee—and that’s okay. - Big Feelings Are Okay
I feel things deeply, and Max’s meltdowns remind me that he has big feelings too. He’s learning how to express them, and that’s part of growing up. His outbursts help me embrace and validate the importance of processing emotions, no matter how big they feel. - Emergency Snacks Are a Lifesaver
I never leave the house without a healthy snack for Max. Growing kids get hungry fast, and hunger can strike at any moment. Snacks have saved the day countless times—whether we’re out longer than planned or stuck on a plane with limited food options. They’re a must-have. - Self-Care Is Essential
Taking care of myself is how I show up as my best for Max. Whether it’s a long shower during nap time or asking Matthew to take Max out for the day so I can recharge, self-care helps me be the mom I want to be. When I start feeling run down, I know it’s time to prioritize myself. It’s not always easy, but it’s necessary.
